Hi, I'm new to this site but really glad I found it. Our baby is 8 1/2 months old and we would like there to be not too big a gap between our children, so had thought about trying again soon -ish. I am still breastfeeding through the night, which I understand is the contraceptive bit. Just wondered about people's experiences with getting pregnant whilst feeding through the night. Obviously on this site, people have had positive experiences as I have read about a few people tandem feeding, which is what I would like to do if pos, which leads me to my next question. A few people have talked about how their older baby loses interest around 16 weeks into the mums pregnancy, do they just often keep on feeding eg for comfort and regain interest again when the milk comes back in? How long have people fed for through the night??? How often etc. Sorry lots of questions, may be should split them up. Hope this is ok for folk. Thanks.

Hi
I would really recommend having a read of Breastfeeding and Natural Child Spacing by Sheila Kippley.

I found my fertility returned at around 16-20 months and would still have been nursing at night.I think it really depends on the person.
Mine have nursed away through the pregnancy and have nursed far less after 16 weeks and then interest certainly increased after the baby was born.

Ha-ha Gilly- funny you should ask. DD was still feeding through the night at 18 months. At that time we decided to try to push her a bit and wean her off the night feeds. We moved her into her pram (she was in our bed) and DH got up to her in the night and pushed her around in the pram until she slept again.

We lasted 1 week, during which time, I went out and bought pretty non-feeding bras. One night I had three stubby bottles of beer - the most alcohol I had drank since before getting pregnant. I got pregnant again that night and just gave up on the night weaning! No point as my body was not my own again anyways!

No sure if this answers your query, but its a funny story!

Thanks, is your baby born yet? Not thinking of giving up night feeds yet, I'm fine with them, it's my husband that gets disturbed by her wakening. I have been looking into a co sleeper crib today though as hubby was sleeping in spare room this week due to cold and DD slept better, so figure she maybe could use a bit more space. Worth a try.

yeah, DS is 9 weeks old. We have a King size bed with a single pushed against it. Moses basket usually on the bed but he is sometimes moved off. Single was originally brought in for DD but she is reluctant to sleep even that far away, DH or myself escape into it for space sometimes.
